You can always rely on us to carry and dispose of waste responsibly – as a Registered Waste Carrier, we comply with all current legislation. We’re committed to having a minimal impact on the environment when we carry out all of our work, aiming to recycle at least 95% of all waste that we pick up, taking it to a fully licensed recycling unit. If you need our services, get in touch with us today or call us on 01353649770.

Common and suitable items to place into a hired skip include household items, such as: wood, tiles, plaster, furniture, cardboard, garden waste and clothes. You can also place heavy building materials into a skip, including bricks, concrete, metals, rubble and stones. You cannot just put anything into a skip though, so be sure to read our checklist of prohibited waste before filling your skip.
Give our team a call and we can discuss which skip size is best suited for your waste disposal project. We can also help you get a road permit should you need one. We’ll offer a competitive quote, and if you’re happy, we’ll deliver your skip on your chosen date. Once your skip is filled, we’ll collect it and dispose of the waste responsibly. Call us on 01353649770 or fill out our online form, with your address and the skip size you require.
While there are plenty of items and materials you can put in a hire skip, there are certain items that you definitely should not place into your skip. These include:
The general rule is that the skip load should be level. We recommend choosing a skip with a slightly larger capacity than you think the collected waste will require.
Heavy materials you can place into your skip include – bricks, metals, rubble, stones and concrete. As long as the load is level, you can fill your skip with as much concrete as you like. For ‘light waste only’ skips, these won’t be suitable for filling with concrete.
With Ely Skip Hire, we recycle and reuse 95% of our skip waste.
There are several ways to hire a skip with us. Our Wait and Load skip hire is a quick 30 minute service. Our driver will wait for you to load and then dispose of your waste. It’s as simple as that.
However, if you need a skip for longer than that, the standard hiring period is 7 days. You can request longer if you need it. Please note: if you’ve had to get a road permit, the length of time you can keep the skip will depend on the council’s requirements.
You pay for the skip at the time of booking through the website.
Yes. Though some skips can hold 10 tonnes or more of weight, transporting a skip this heavy would be an almighty task. It’s for this reason that we limit what you can put in certain skips; if you filled one of our larger skips with heavy materials, it would simply be too hefty for our equipment to transport it.
For fire safety, skips should be located at least 6m away from buildings, though some insurers will require them to be kept 10m away. To be certain, speak to your home insurance company for advice.
There are so many reasons! If you’re planning to carry out home improvements or have a clear out, hiring a skip could save you a significant amount of time, effort and money. It’ll help you avoid making multiple trips to the tip, and will ensure that the waste is recycled where possible.
If you plan to put garden waste in your skip, we’d recommend using a wheelbarrow to transport it swiftly from your garden to the skip. Depending on the size of skip you’ve chosen, you may not be able to fill it entirely with soil – make sure you confirm this with us beforehand if you’re not sure.
We’re able to carry a maximum of three empty skips on the back of one of our lorries, though we can only transport one partially or fully loaded skip at a time.
One of the advantages of hiring a skip is sustainability. We recycle or reuse 95% of the waste we collect in our skips, with the remainder going to landfill.
Our specially-designed skip lorries make light work of emptying skips. The waste is then sorted, with the majority (95%) being recycled or reused. The rest is then transported to landfill.
Yes, though not every type of waste is permitted in every size of skip. Visit our skip hire page for more information.
